Thank you for visiting Drewlightful; a food blog for home cooks, like me, looking for feasible recipes made with simple ingredients.

My passion for cooking ignited about eleven years ago when I decided to take control of what I put into my body. Prior to that, I ate most of my meals from restaurants and my sugar and salt intake was through the roof. I did not feel healthy and I realized I wanted a healthier lifestyle. Watching Food Network shows inspired me to get in the kitchen. I began trying out different recipes which eventually led to me creating unique recipes with simple ingredients.

My versatility is inspired by the places I’ve been fortunate enough to have visited and/or lived in. I was born in Massachusetts and raised in my father’s home country of Nigeria until I moved back to The U.S. when I was 18, for college. My Caribbean flair comes from my mother’s home cooking and visiting where she was born in Barbados.

In 2016, I spent two months in India for work. Most of my free time was spent exploring and trying new foods. My favorite was sambar, a soup made with lentils, dal and tamarind. I made sure to come back from the trip with plenty of spices to use in my kitchen at home! Some of the other places I’ve picked up inspiration from are Mexico, Spain, New Orleans and Little Havana in Miami. I hope to continue traveling, learning and finding inspiration in all corners of the world and from others.

I hope that this blog becomes a place where we can connect, get inspired and be creative together.
